The book started out by telling secrets. But did it do justice? That is for the reader to decide. There were too many stories elaborated in the first two books, and I think that's the reason why this book was lengthy. It tied all the loose ends. But I think the story tried a little too hard to humanize the supernatural.

A book review of THE OATH OF THE VAYUPUTRAS by every_thing_bookish

The first two books told us that good and evil is inside a person and his experiences. Some people are nice and some, not-so-nice. They, like any other human, hide things, lash out when asked about it, and are a bit reckless in decision-making, Like Shiva once was too!! The book contains a detailed description on what evil is and why it must be thwarted. A little stretched, I'd say.

What didn't work well

The thing I'd not properly agree with is the reason behind why Shiva was the Neelkanth. The reason sounded too perfect to be true, again working too hard to humanize the supernatural. He wasn't from the clan of potential Neelkanths. Another fact that doesn't settle is the oath of the Vayuputras. Its just that, the oath. There's no greater significance of the Vayuputras in the story.

What I really enjoyed

The thing that I loved was how Shiva's kid became the fiercest fighter of all, despite his age. I'd be crying over my fallen teeth while he was massacring hundreds of evil people with his sword. The allies come from unexpected directions to Shiva's aid, even though he was being declared a fraud by the mastermind. The prophecy was all some people could believe in, and Shiva promised to deliver.

But soon as he saw a great death, he snapped. He lost his grip on sanity, and did what he thought was right, which wasn't right to do at all. After all this wisdom Shiva learnt over the two books, You wouldn't expect him to do what he ended up doing. But, if looked from love's point of view, you might think otherwise.

I think you must pick this to read. You'd would be shocked, if not angered or elated with the ending. Pick the trilogy, and read it in a flow, you will not be disappointed.
